Beat the New Year’s rush!

As we are approaching the end of the year, many of us will be thinking more about the changes we will be making in the new year. This might be vowing to take up a new exercise class or it could be deciding to ditch the unhealthy habits.

Research has found that around 71% of people stick to their resolution after two weeks and just 64% of people are still at it in February.

Below are a few tips to help make sure that you are one of the 64%. A healthy lifestyle is for life and not just for January.

Beat the rush

One tip we have for setting yourself up for success in the New Year is to get started in December. December is a great time to get started with your exercise or healthy regime. You will find fewer people in gyms and at exercise classes. This means you will get more attention in group classes, you might feel more confident asking your instructor for help and you will get more freedom in gyms to try out new of equipment. 

 

Extra time

“The hardest thing about exercise is to start doing it. Once you are doing exercise regularly, the hardest thing is to stop”

It usually takes about 21 days to form a new habit. By starting in December, you are giving yourself a head start allowing time to get stuck into your new routine and forming your new healthy habits.

 

Stop making excuses!

The new year’s rush can be overwhelming. Many of us end up saving all our goals for this time which can result in an ‘all or nothing’ attitude. It is likely you might burn yourself out and abandon your progress a few weeks in.
